Should I be going via URSSAF to obtain my business SIRET number?

Following on from about registering as an artiste libre here in 黑料网最新入口, I have noticed that at the , one can register as an artist to obtain a SIRET number and an APE code from INSEE.
This is a different route to that suggested in your original answer, where you advised going directly to the Impots. I am now confused. Should I be going via URSSAF to obtain my SIRET number?
