Does my mother need to pay for a Mutuelle?
My mother is 87 years old and came to live with us permanently in ºÚÁÏÍø×îÐÂÈë¿Ú last year. She has the appropriate form which allows her access to the ºÚÁÏÍø×îÐÂÈë¿Ú state health and this will be paid for by the UK until her death. What I would like to know, please, is should she pay to have a Mutuelle cover for the difference that is not covered by the ºÚÁÏÍø×îÐÂÈë¿Ú Health? Her pension income per month is approximately €950 per month, so I expect this is above the threshold for non-contribution? Some of her medecines are covered 100% because of a long-term condition, so the regular cost for these are not too high. Obviously what I am concerned about is the cost of any hospital stay without mutuelle cover. What happens if you are very old, go into hospital and don’t have a mutuelle and cannot afford to pay?
